With an average speed of at least 30 km/h, Spiros is to compete in the Shell Eco-Marathon. Over 200 teams from a total of 24 countries are taking part in the competition in Europe. This year the race is held at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz track in Germany during 6th – 7th May. The purpose of the competition is to consume as small amount of energy as possible during seven laps.
The history of the Shell Eco-marathon stretches back over 50 years.
It originated at Shell's research lab in Illinois, US, with friendly
wagers between fellow scientists to see who could get the most miles
per gallon from their vehicles. From these humble origins, where the
winner scarcely achieved 50MPG, more organised competitions evolved.
